Air & Hydronic Balancing

Precision testing, measuring, and proportioning of HVAC air distribution systems and hydronic water flow to achieve design engineer specifications and peak thermal comfort.

Why Air & Hydronic Balancing is Essential

In modern commercial facilities, HVAC systems represent one of the largest capital investments and ongoing operating costs. Even high-end equipment will fail to perform if airflow (CFM) and water flow (GPM) are not balanced according to design engineer specifications.

Imbalanced systems lead to hot and cold spots, excessive humidity, drafty offices, noisy air diffusers, increased fan energy consumption, and premature equipment wear. Evenflow’s NEBB certified technicians systematically calibrate every component in your air and water loops.

Air Balancing Scope & Deliverables

  • Total Air Volume Measurement: Total supply, return, outside air, and exhaust CFM verification across Air Handling Units (AHUs), RTUs, and Dedicated Outdoor Air Systems (DOAS).
  • Duct Traverse Readings: Pitot tube and thermal anemometer traverse measurements to establish actual main and branch duct velocities.
  • Terminal Device Proportional Balancing: Flow hood measurement and damper adjustment for diffusers, grilles, registers, and VAV terminal units.
  • Building Static Pressure Verification: Establishing proper positive building pressurization to prevent untreated outdoor air infiltration and moisture intrusion.

Hydronic Water Balancing Scope

  • Pump Capacity Verification: Head pressure, pump curves, and flow rate (GPM) testing under full and partial design loads.
  • Chiller & Boiler Heat Exchangers: Differential pressure across evaporators, condensers, and boilers to protect thermal transfer efficiency.
  • Coil & Balancing Valve Adjustment: Circuit setter and triple-duty valve balancing across air handlers, fan coil units (FCUs), and VAV reheat coils.
